Sound system Harman Kardon vs Focal Hello everyone. I recently became the owner of a countryman Works and love the vehicle but I unfortunately I didn’t opt in for the H/K sound system so now I am seriously underwhelmed.
Crazy to pay $75K for a luxury SUV that has inferior sound. I ordered mine assuming the HK was standard with the premium package (it was on the 2021 and the HK site specifically says its available on all BMW models). Shame on BMW for cutting corners and even worse for not being transparent and honest about it.
But not sure of the benefits of doing this. The HK speakers probably work better driven by more power that the bass hifi has and TBH they're not really a substantial upgrade. The sum of the Hk system is better than bass hifi, The hk is better because of the number of speakers and more power not really because individual drivers are a massive
It gives nice visual upgrade to interior trim. IMHO, the HK sound system is considerably better than the standard audio. I have had both in numerous BMWs, even today I have the HK in my 335is and not in my wife's X3 , both of which are 2012 models. The sound difference is quite apparent.

Honestly if sound is that important I’d spend the 3-5k to get something nice professionally installed. This is probably really subjective but my first 3 BMWs had base audio systems, and it was pretty decent compared to non luxury brands, including vw. Harman Kardon sounds better, and it is noticable.
I just got a 2023 Niro SX yesterday w/ Harman Kardon speakers and just found a “fix” for the poor sound quality. It might sound crazy, but instead of rolling back the bass, I did Treble +6, Midrange +8, and bass +1. Everything sounds so much clearer and now I’m really loving the sound.
I think iDrive 7 Professional is only included in G30 5-series manufactured 07/2019 and fowards, while 06/2019 and earlier still use "NBT-EVO". It did seem like it could get slightly distorted when there’s a lot going on in the mid-range which is understandable considering there are only four speakers total, but it was still enjoyable enough. I’m just going to have to deal with not having the Harman/Kardon since BMW pulled it and the i3 is being discontinued at the end of July.

It should be a stand alone option. In Canada, the audio upgrade is significant because the standard system is 6 speakers, no tweeters and just about 110W of power. The HiFi system is 10 speakers, and 205W of power, and the HK system is 16 speakers and ~450W. In the USA we have HiFi standard in the i4, with the HK optional at $875.
